This is a beautiful National Historic Landmark located in gorgious downtown Jim Thorpe, nestled high up on the hill surrounded by lush vegetation.  The victorian home was built by Asa Packer, the philanthropist, railroad mangate, and founder of the Lehigh University.  Back in 1861, at the time of it's construction, the project cost $14,000 and took two years to build.  Visitors and tourists can catch guided tours through the house now dedicated as a museum, where one can find beautiful victorian antique relics throughout the period-preserved home.  Please see website for tour information.

Knoebels Amusement Resort

Knoebels Amusement Resort

Family Picnics - Camping - Swimming - Water Slides - Golf Resort - Rides - Food
Fun for the whole family!

Location:  391 Knoebels Blvd.  Elysburg, PA 17824

Amusement Park Admission: Free!  Pay for rides individually.

Tour the entire park aboard the old fashioned locomotive!  The park boasts two exciting train rides!  Good for all ages!

New exciting rides are added to the park each year in addition to the old-time favorites!  Experience old park favorites never seen in most amusement parks!  Enjoy amazing food, ride on the Pheonix wooden roller coaster (entered into the top 10 roller coasters in the U.S.!), or steer your own motor boat through the winding canals of the park!  Take a view from atop the ferris wheel or sky ride, feel the wind in your hair aboard the Galleon or my personal favorites, the Paratroopers and The Flyer!  See what all of those TV specials are talking about in the beautiful hand-craftsmanship of the carousel horses on the Grand Carousel.  This carousel is not just for the kids!  Adults line up to sit on the outside horses to collect brass rings.  This was an ongoing contest between myself, my brothers, my father and my uncles during my young adulthood!

One of the best things about this park is that there is always a person in your group who doesn't wish to ride the rides, but is your designated purse, bag, or baseball hat holder.  This amusement park is good for everyone, even Grandma with her walker!  There is no admission  into the amusement park; each ride is paid for as you board with old-fashioned tickets that you purchase.  I especially like the way that this family-owned park keeps it's traditional role among all amusement parks.  The tradition is simple..."family fun for everyone!"

Though I've never stayed here, I must say that this place looks like an AMAZING place to stay.  You absolutely MUST visit the website and check out the photos.  The owners of this B&B know how to make their guests feel comfortable with this stunning facility!  I also found the imagery on the website to really capture and portray a true sense of the beautiful scenery in and around the Poconos!
